Merry Christmas! I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas and looking forward to the New Year. And what a perfect time to make some resolutions or intentions to ‘kick start’ you career in 2014. It is so important to steer your career in the direction you want it to take. Only you are accountable for how your career turns out!
Over the next few weeks I shall be posting several blog posts on things you can do or use to ‘kick start’ your career. I shall be talking about:
- Portfolio’s – How to build one, what to put in one and how to use one.
- Networking – How to network, whom to network with, the use of social media in networking.
- Specialist skills & General skills – Should you specialize in one area to gain employment? Or gain more ‘general’ skills? Or both?
- Submitting papers/presentations for Conferences – What should I write in a proposal? Do I need to be an established museum professional to submit one?
There are no right or wrong ways to kick start your museum career or change direction in your career. What I shall write about is simply advice and ideas I have picked up throughout my museum career. You may follow them or you may not follow them. They are just simply pieces of advice that may help you.
